Milwaukee Pet Store Protest Group

Pet Stores, Puppy Mills, Animal Welfare

                            How You Can Help

How can you help our organization and contribute to our success? Join our group and join our events! We have scheduled events throughout the year on a bi-weekly basis. We can also always use help with literature printing, T-shirt printing, and poster making! Our events are not just limited to rallies outside pet shops selling companion animals! We also have information booths at pet expos, rescue events, and other activities that help raise awareness. We are also working on new projects/fundraising to educate the public through billboards, classified ads, and internet networking!

Did you purchase a puppy from Puppy World in Greenfield, WI?

If so, we want to hear from you! Please share your experience with us! Write to us at: HappyCappy90@hotmail.com . We look forward to hearing from you. Please put "Puppy World Puppy" in the subject line so we do not accidently delete your email as spam!

What to Expect at a Pet Store Demonstration...

Dress for the weather! Sometimes it gets very warm, sometimes it gets very wet, sometimes it gets very cold!!! This is WISCONSIN folks! Snow pants and face gear are not too extreme for winter events. We'd hate to see you have to leave due to the fact that you weren't prepared for the weather.

All events are planned ahead of time and cleared with the local law enforcement. If a permit is required, we will take care of that for our group!

Please bring a sign if you feel artistic. We do provide extras but on occasion we have run out. Do not keep signs tied to traffic signs, speed signs, or county signs. Do not block traffic views with your signs. Do not use signs that resemble pictures of traffic signs, for example...a stop sign to say "STOP puppymills".

Literature is supplied by our group hosts. There is a host at every event to welcome new comers, help with instructions, and to make sure the events go smoothly. Pre-determined members will be responsible for passing literature. Do not force literature, only offer it. Do not leaflet cars, this is not allowed. Do not Jaywalk to hand out literature.

Keep the peace! Yep, that's right. Milwaukee Pet Store Protest group is dignified, and we respect the laws and regulations set forth for us. We want to be taken seriously, and we want to be allowed to be there! Let's not ruin our reputation with childish behavior, rude remarks, or foul language. We want to appear friendly to the public so they are comfortable approaching us to see what we are doing. Wave and smile! You'll find we have lots of support from the public.

The events we schedule are not without merit! Every location we attend to has a list of consumer complaints, unsanitary conditions, and has lists of breeders with too much inventory, low standards, and USDA violations. Most importantly though: these stores are supporting the cruelty of puppy mills. A good breeder would never sell their litter of puppies to a pet store for resale to just anyone.

Learn the facts! People have questions about puppy mills and want to know some answers! Be prepared to answer them or direct them to a member with more knowledge on that particular topic. Literature is very helpful here, because it directs them to where they can follow up with even more detailed information.

Be ready for the press. You just never know when they might show up to do a story on our events. We have been in the newspapers, the nightly news, and have had children approach us with school projects. Make sure you have a statement for them and information to answer their questions.

Please be courteous to other members. We are all here for the same purpose and we all have one common goal. Let's work together and support each other and everyone's ideas. And as always, please respect our members privacy and keep confidential information to yourselves.

Have fun! Yes we are serious at what we do and what we stand for, but take some time and enjoy yourselves and get to know other members and their four legged companions friends....Which brings me to the next topic!

Furry friends are welcomed to all of our events. Please remember to clean up any presents they leave behind, and make sure they are properly socialized and not aggressive towards other members or their furry friends.

Your presence is vital to the success of our group. We are only as strong as our members allow us to be so please let us know if you do not have the time or dedication to make it to our events. We will take you off of our "active members" list but leave you in our email account if you wish to stay in the loop on news, topics, and things related to puppy mills and the dogs who suffer in them.

Thank you for helping this group succeed in our efforts!

                          What else can I do?

1. Tell everyone you know about commercial kennels. Tell then not to buy a dog in a pet store.

2. Link to this website. When people surf the Internet for information on buying a puppy, they need to have access to information about commercial kennels so they can make informed decisions. The more links there are to this website the more likely it will be displayed in a search about puppies.

3. Protest a pet store. There are groups all over the country protesting pet stores every weekend. Or start your own protest group and protest a store in your area. Read about how to start a protest here. Let Prisoners of Greed, No Wisconsin Puppy Mills, ASPCA, Best Friends, and Peaceful Protest know about a protest you are staging and they will include it on the website and send out an email announcement about it.

4. Send an email or letter to your representatives and officials and tell them that you want to see them do something about these conditions in commercial kennels.

5. Put an ad in the newspapers in your area to educate consumers in your area. You can click here for camera ready art for a newspaper ad. Your newspaper can take the ad and enlarge or shrink it for the space you want to purchase. Prices of newspaper ads have decreased recently and are very reasonable making this an effective way to educate the public.

6. Print flyers and hang them everywhere - businesses, post offices, libraries, grocery stores, colleges, schools - everywhere there is a public bulletin board. Also, take the flyers and put them on the car windows at malls where there are pet stores selling puppies. You need to check whether they mall is posted "no soliciting".  Many are. You can click here for flyers that can be printed.

7. Puppy mill brochures can be ordered from ihelppets.com or they can be downloaded from this link and printed. They print on 11 x 17 white glossy paper double sided color. Then they fold in half and then in thirds. They do require a large size printer. You can copy the brochure to a CD and have a store like Kinko's make copies for you. Give these brochures to everyone you know. Leave them in airplanes, restaurants, doctors offices, vets offices, car repair shops - everywhere people wait. Spread the word about commercial kennels. When the public learns the truth about the parents of those puppies in the pet stores they will stop buying them and the mills will close. We have had an enormous response from these brochures. They are full of information and full color photos. They carry great emotional weight.

8. Put up a billboard in your area. Billboards vary greatly in price but are great way to reach thousands of people. Read more about the billboards.

9. Schedule a presentation at your school or community function. Email Prisoners of Greed to ask about a presentation. Ask you kids to educate their classmates with a speech or report on Puppy Mills.

10. Send in an editorial to all of the newspapers in your area. To read a sample editorial, click here. There is a great listing of all of the newspaper outlets at the webpage for the Democratic Party. You can enter your zip code and get information on every news outlet in that zip code. You can go to their website by clicking here.

.11. Send a letter to all of the pet stores in your area that sell puppies and tell them that you will not be buying anything from them until they stop selling puppies. It's important for stores to understand the financial impact of selling puppies. Send the pet store a copy of your invoice from purchases you made from other stores that do not sell puppies to show them how much business they have lost by selling puppies. Remember to remove any credit card number from the receipt. Read more about this and get a sample letter by clicking here.

12. Go to pet stores in your area, look at the puppies, note the conditions, ask to see the registration papers for the puppies and write down the name and address of the breeder and the broker. Then send that information to Prisoners of greed or Pet Shop Puppies.org at CAM@prisonersofgreed.org / psp@petshoppuppies.org .

13. Vote. Agribusiness and the pet industry have a huge well funded lobby that gives them a voice in Congress. It's important that the people who care about animals learn to join together to make their voices heard. The first step is for everyone who cares about animals to vote. If you aren't registered, go to this website http://www.workingforchange.com/vote

14. Wear anti-puppy mill gear! Hats, sweatshirts, T-Shirts, bumper stickers, totes, and other items grab attention. Here are a few links you can buy items from. You can also design your own on the web! http://www.zazzle.com/prisonersofgreed or or http://shop.cafepress.com/no-puppy-mills .
